No-Salt Water Systems
A little common sense goes a long way
1st Piece of common sense:
If there was a water softener that worked without salt and produced results that customers were actually satisfied with, don't you think they would sell them at Home Depot?
As a water treatment professional I have the ability to get very technical in the explanation of how things work or do not work. In my experience I've found most people are not impressed with my long winded technical explanations, they just want to know if my solutions will work.
There are a few great web sites that get extremely technical debunking all sorts of water conditioning devices. If you want to look at the chemistry of how these devices can't possibly work from a retired university chemistry professor visit Water pseudo science and quackery.
My explanation of No Salt Water Softeners and other No Salt "Conditioners" is specific to the region that we serve, and is based on common sense.
If it seems too good to be true, it probably is.
Who wouldn't want one water system that conditions the water for your entire home with no salt, no maintenance, and no waste? Who wouldn't want the water from every tap in my home to taste great also.
Does this sound too good to be true?
The water in every area is different. A national distributor of water treatment equipment can make this claim if they are talking about an area that starts out with good water initially. Unfortunately the water in our area can not possibly give you that outcome with any type of equipment.
We proudly serve San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties on the beautiful coast of California.
The specific problems that we treat are hardness, chlorine, and chemicals for the entire home.
Any manufacturer who's technology is so "proprietary" that they will not explain to you how it works is simply pulling the wool over your eyes.
Many of these devices are being sold over the internet or through multi-level marketing. Pay a few hundred dollars for a "placebo effect" water treatment system where your dishes are still coming out dirty, you still have all the scale on your faucets and you still have dry skin. You get what you pay for. If it sounds too good to be true...

As an optimist I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and say that they are not all scams. Physical conditioning has its place; like in a boiler room. However with the severity of hardness we have in this area they are simply ineffective.
